16 Year Old Girl Circumnavigating the Globe
Circumnavigate, the term itself sounds like a big deal and it is. Dictionary.com says it is "to sail or fly around; make the circuit of by navigation, to go or maneuver around." Many people think of Circumnavigating as something they do during heavy traffic but to 16 year old Abigail Sunderland this is something she is doing to our planet, alone! Since she was 6 months old she has been on boats and around water and at age 13 she began single-handing. Since then her dream has been to conquer the earth and be the youngest person to do so. After watching her brother, Zac Sunderland, accomplish the same feat, Abby has realized that her dream would undoubtedly come true with hard work and perseverance. Abby embarked on her journey January 23rd 2010 from Marina Del Rey, California
and is currently about 900 miles Northwest of Cape Horn, Chile
. She has gained much support from family, friends & sponsors and her spirits remain high. You can follow Abby on her blog or her website and root her on as the brave young girl completes an expedition that few ahead of her have completed.
